Southampton have completed the signing of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal.

Ramsdale, who made 89 appearances for Arsenal and played a key role in their second-place Premier League finish in 2022-23, leaves the Gunners after losing his spot to David Raya.

"I'm absolutely delighted," Ramsdale said. "The manager's enthusiasm was infectious when we spoke. I'd never met him before, but he made me feel like I was eight feet tall, which is exactly what you want. Returning to the south coast is also great for my family and me, making the transition easier. I'm eager to hit the ground running and get back to doing what I do best, all while enjoying myself here."

At 26 years old, Ramsdale has already made five appearances for England and boasts a total of 153 Premier League appearances.

Southampton manager Russell Martin expressed his excitement about the signing, saying, "I'm delighted. Bringing in a player like Aaron is a real statement for us. I'm grateful to the ownership and board for making this happen, especially with so many other clubs interested in him. Aaron is not just a talented goalkeeper but also a skilled footballer overall, which fits perfectly with our style of play.

"His experience, despite his relatively young age, and his character will be valuable additions both on and off the pitch. I'm very pleased with our goalkeeper group moving forward. Alex McCarthy played a crucial role in our promotion, and Joe Lumley brings great experience and quality. Gavin Bazunu has a bright future as well, but with his injury and Mateusz Lis moving to Göztepe, it was vital to add another player, and we couldn't have asked for anyone better than Aaron.
